Queen Camilla played a "masterclass" parting move before departing the United States as she and King Charles bid farewell to Donald and Melania Trump at the White House.

Queen Camilla sent a classy parting message to President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, as she and King Charles concluded their four-day US state visit.

On Thursday, the Trumps rolled out the red carpet to formally bid farewell to the British royals in a ceremony outside the White House, where the leaders posed for photographs and exchanged goodbyes.

Camilla appeared to send a subtle message to the President and First Lady by accessorising her royal blue Anna Valentine dress with the Tiffany brooch that Melania gifted her last year.

The vintage floral brooch, which is estimated to be worth more than $57,000, is made from 18k gold and adorned with diamonds and rubies - the Queen's birthstone.

The jewellery was given to the Queen by Melania when the Trumps visited the UK in September.

Throughout the King and Queen's historic visit to the US, Melania and Camilla's fashion choices have been branded a "masterclass in fashion-as-diplomacy".

Memorable selections have included the Queen's diplomatic US and UK flag brooch , Melania and Camilla's matching off-white outfits, and pink gowns for the White House state dinner.

Fashion expert Amber Graafland said these fashion statements were "anything but accidental" and the Queen and First Lady's teams will have exchanged “months of emails and coordination” beforehand.

The subtle signs in their outfits "speak volumes before either woman said a word," she told The Sun.

During the visit, the royals exchanged several gifts with the Trumps once again, including historical items and jewels.

Queen Camilla gave Melania a brooch by British jewellery designer Fiona Rae, and the First Lady gifted her six Tiffany & Co silver teaspoons engraved with her royal monogram.

Meanwhile, President Trump gifted Charles a copy of a 1785 letter written by President John Adams to diplomat John Jay, and the King gave Trump a framed replica of the 1879 design plans for the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.

Speaking to press before the King and Queen departed the White House, the US President branded Charles "the greatest king in my book".

"Great people," Trump added shortly after the royals' car drove off.

"We need more people like that in our country."

Charles and Camilla then travelled to Virginia, where they attended a local block party and celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Before returning to the UK, they will visit Bermuda, where the King is head of state.
